The first project: The composer
The second project: Sound scape
In this project, I'm going to imitate the sound of the environment inside a blacksmith shop. The first step is to choose a picture and I would create a story within a picture, so I would help me have a clear image on what is going on in the shop. The story I have come up with is a blacksmith who is working alone in his shop which has a limited about of light. He is crafting a weapon and he has to craft it by heating the metal in the fireplace and then use a hammer to make it into shape. Secondly, I have to identify both human-made sounds and natural sounds I might need to include in my project. I've listed some of them and it includes the sound of metal, fireplace, footstep, water, a wooden bucket, a brush, and people. The mood of my project is isolated because the blacksmith is working alone in his dark shop. I will create the mood by making all the sound become clear in order to emphasise the hush environment.

Final project
Reflection
In my opinion, I have completed the project successfully . I created a sound scape of a blacksmith shop. I have included a lot of different sounds which I recored and edited myself, and I have applied a lot of techniques from the lessons to imitate the sounds. For example, the fire sound is somewhat difficult to record. As a result, I used a microphone to record the burning papers, and added a sound of plastic into it in order to make it sound more realistic. I also included the background environmental sound, hence it will allow the listeners to get into the actual setting. Nonetheless, there are a few mistakes I made. At first, I recorded the sound of hitting metal, still it sounded to repetitive. When I combined the sound into the project, it became too noisy and made me get a headache. Consequently, I altered the rhythm and made it become more interesting. What I have found is that not only does it become less noisy, but also help grab the listeners attention really well. Secondly, while I was combing all different sounds in my work, I found out that their sounds become too separated and didn’t go along with each other. As a result, I let the teacher listen to my project and get the advices. I have learnt that I could apply more techniques in editing the project. One of them was by fading the sound. It helped smoothen the transition of each sounds. In addition, adding many overlapping sounds can make the overall sound become really realistic, because usually, in real life ,there are many different sounds occurring in one place.
Reflecting back on everything I have learnt from doing this project, I have realised both my strengths and my weaknesses. One of my strengths is an ability to accept others’ opinions and comments, as well as use them to improve the quality of my work. I didn’t feel offended when someone criticises my work, but I felt that it’s useful. I am also able to apply what I have learnt during the class really well; therefore it really helps me know different techniques. The most significant weakness I have noticed was that I was not really good at using the editing program. I was really bad at IT and at first I could not make my project really well, because I didn’t know how to use it. However, I tried to learn more about the program, so I could use many tools. Another weakness is that I didn’t manage the time well. Recently, I have quite a lot of work both in school and university applications.
If I have a chance to do this kind of project in the future, I will be more aware of the mistakes I made in this project. I will plan on what I have to do each day, so the quality of my work will be improved. I will also learn a lot about how a program functions, so it will allow me to create my project well, and also save my time. As a learner, I believe that I am a learner who always wants to improve, even though sometimes I’m good already. As a person, I can accept others’ opinion which I believe that it’s an important quality to have. In our everyday life, it’s really important for us to listen to other people, and use it to reflect back on ourselves.
